HARDSHIP: NLC HOLDS PROTEST IN OWERRI AMIDST POLICE SQUAD  DEPLOYMENT

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Imo State chapter, today, joined its counterparts in other States across the country to hold a peaceful protest against hardship.

It would be recalled, that the NLC had planned to embark on a two-day march over hardtimes the citizens are undergoing.

     The union Government members, who moved towards House, Owerri, with their banner with the inscription “Say No To Hardship Ravaging The Country”, End Hardship Now”.
     Addressing the NLC members, at the Government House, former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, urged them to continue to pray for the country for things to get better.
   “The Shared Prosperity administaion of His Excellency, Hope Uzodimma, will continue to support people of the State towards ensuring they are happy”.
 Earlier, the Imo State Police Command had deployed anti-riot operatives at the  strategic Government House round about ahead of today’s nationwide protest declared by the union over what it described as economic crunch in the country.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Assistant Supritendent of Police (ASP) Henry Okoye, explained on Monday that officers had been placed on red alert to avert a breakdown of law and order.

Earlier in his speech,  the Imo State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Chigamezu Igwe, said their new demand is to a living Wage for every worker.

    “Every citizen of this  country is now hungry. We are appeallig to everyone to join in this struggle. We are asking State government that has not started paying the Thirty Thousand  naira (#30, 000) Minimum Wage to implement it”.
