APC WON IMO 27 LG CHAIRMANSHIPS, 305 WARD COUNCILLORS SEATS, SAYS ISIEC BOSS
BY SAMPSON UHUEGBU
As the last Saturday’s Local Government Chairmanships and and ward Councillors elections had come and gone, the Chairman, Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Chief Charles Ejiogu, yesterday, said that the All Progressives Congress (APC), swept all the seats for the 27 Chairmanships and 305 Councillorship seats.
The State Electoral umpire revealed, that out of the 19 registered political parties, only 17 participated in the election that, according to him, took place in the Three Hundred and Five (305) electoral wards, Twenty Seven (27) Council areas and Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Eight (4,758) polling units across Imo.
Ejiogu, who stated this, while addressing the media at the Commission’s conference hall, Sunday, September 22, 2024, said, it was a journey they started in June, when the Commission formally unveiled the processes programmed at ushering in a new democratic setting in the rural areas.
“We started with a visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security agencies, the Imo Orientation Agency, and some persons in government to inform them of commitment of the Commission to conduct Local Government election”, he said.
He further stated, that at the eve of the election, the Commission made it possible for all political parties to inspect the electoral materials, both the sensitive and non- sensitive ones of which they confirmed.
The ISIEC Boss therefore commended the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), people of the State and security officers for their cooperation during the local government polls.
