Alvan Ikoku Acting DVC, Lemchi Lays Foundation For Profs’, Lecturers’ Office Complex

It was a moment of another land mark event in the history of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education as the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin),

 Prof.Mrs Stella Ngozi Lemchi accompanied by her team of Management on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, laid the foundation of the proposed Chief Lecturers/ Professors Office Complex,(A TETFUND Normal Intervention Project).

Performing the ceremony held at Shell Camp Area of the University,the Ag. DVC (Admin.) Prof.Mrs Stella Ngozi Lemchi disclosed that it was a part of the efforts geared towards providing a conducive  work environment in order to enhance the performance of staff.

   She explained that the project was sited there because many Chief Lecturers in the Shell Camp areas do not have befitting Offices with built in convenience, while noting that she and the immediate past Deputy Provost,Dr. Ngozi Ebomuche, were from the Shell Camp constituency and know the problem of the area well enough to address it properly.

The Ag. DVC stated that the project was the first of its kind over the years as the designers factored in the need of the physically-challenged

In her words, “In line with international best practices, the new Chief Lecturers Office and Classroom Complex has a ramp to the first floor, increasing access to the building for persons living with disabilities. The Ag DVC also disclosed that the earlier idea was to ensure that the ramp got to the second floor but the cost implications made them to have a second thought about it. Prof Lemchi further revealed that the project was proposed for Chief Lecturers Offices, but with the transition from College of Education to University, the nomenclature will change to Professors Office Complex.

The Ag. DVC expressing her excitement over the approach of the Contractor noted that it was heart-gladdening that irrespective of the harsh economic realities of the day, the Contractor hit the ground running as soon as the Contract was approved regardless of not having received a dime. It was because the Contractor started work as soon as he was given approval that the work progressed to such a remarkable stage within a short period of time.

She prayed that God would grant safety to all those working in the site and grant a speedy execution of the job.

In his remarks, the Contractor, Engr.Chima Idika noted  that they were glad to be a part of what was happening in the institution, adding that a lot of good things had happened and are still happening in this  current administration.

   He stressed that the reason they moved into action without allowing the normal government process of waiting to receive money to start was because of the good relationship that has been existing between them and the Ag.

  DVC and admired her passion and sincere desire to take the young University to enviable heights and the company’s desire to identify with the vision. Engr. Chima assured the Management that by the grace of God,he would do his best to deliver the completed project before or by January, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Dr Mrs Ezinne Okoroafor in a moment of expression of joy used the opportunity to show gratitude to God and the Management team for deeming it necessary to situate the project at the Shell Camp area of the University, noting that, it was the first time in the history of the institution, tagging it as one of the blessings that accompanied Prof. Stella Ngozi Lemchi’s led administration. She prayed God to grant the DVC and her Management more grace to do more.

Also present at the foundation laying ceremony were the immediate past Deputy Provost, Dr Ngozi Ebomuche, the Ag. Registrar, Barr. BF Anyanwu, the Ag. Bursar, Dr Nicholas Nkwoji and  the Director of Works and Services, Engr Uche Ngwoke including the lead consultant, TANGENT INTEGRATED LTD,Arc. Frank Ajero, among others.
