Abia Residents Groan Over Hyper-  Inflation, Lack Of Electricity

Residents of Abia are lamenting steady rise of goods, services and epileptic electricity outage across the state, adding that life has become unbearable for them and their households.
Speaking with cross sections of Abians and residents at the current hardship in the country, they all has one sorry story to tell on how the economic is affecting them.
A foremost traditional ruler in Abia, Eze Ibeabuchi John Ibezim said he has a pure and bottle water factory but it is difficult now to successfully operate because of incessant power outage. He said it has never been this bad.
Eze Ibezim who was the immediate past chairman of Umuahia North Traditional Rulers Council said his house is besieged on a daily basis from his subjects asking for either food stuff, money for treatment or even their children school fees. He urged the government to wake up from their slumber and address the current hardship in the country adding that an hungry man is an angry man that can do anything for survival.
Contributing, another traditional ruler, Eze Luke Uche who deals in building materials in Umuahia the state capital said it is alarming the way and manner prices of building materials are rising especially cement. He said within last week alone prices of cement has been skyrocketing on a daily basis adding that as he speaks the price of cement stand as thirteen thousand naira reiterated that if nothing is done it will keep rising while he attributed the rise to hyper inflation.
He further noted that he has 11 persons both his children, relations and some of his subjects that he feeds on daily basis and still pay their school fees. He regretted that whether big man or small man everyone in the country is getting poorer because inflation will not allow one to save.
Speaking also a house wife and a pensioner, Mrs Nwakaku Uluh said is frightening anytime she goes to market she returned wondering if she has lost money in the market but after calculating the things she bought she will discover she did not loss any money.
She noted that the economy is biting hard and the worst of all is the near collapse of electricity in the area where she is living adding that you can not preserve the food stuff bought in the market due to constant power outage. She appeal to government to repair all the refineries in the country so that the cost of fuel can be reduced while she attributed the worsening economic to the sudden removal of fuel subside.
Lending her voice, Mrs Joannes Kalu, a mother said the current situation in the country is affecting every family. She noted that a lot of families can not longer send their children to school because every institutions including primary and secondary schools are hiking their fees at every section.
“Something urgent is needed to be done by our government, the masses are seriously suffering, the sick can not longer visit the hospital, even me that have waist pain cannot longer visit the hospital because of the cost of drugs and other services which are unavoidable. I have never seen this level of inflation on daily basis, you buy a thing in the morning in the evening of same day the price has increase”. Mrs Kalu disclosed.
Speaking, a youth who works in one of the shopping malls in Umuahia, Mr Godswill Ogbonnaya,  said before now the economic of the country was quite stable but unfortunately the moment the president removed fuel subside just over night goods and services began to rise and this has brought us to where we are today.
