IMSU Vice Chancellor, Chukwumeze Gives Zero Tolerance To Cultism

Vice Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Prof. Ugonna Chukwumaeze, has stated that the institution gives zero tolerance to cultism and its related activities.

He stated this when he addressed officers of Man ‘O’ War Nigeria, Imo State Command, who visited him at his office, on Thursday.

The Vice Chancellor said cultism and its related activities are worrisome issues in the school even though Security Outfits, Management and other relevant Stakeholders are working closely to ensure that students are not indulged with cultism, saying the school loves peace and security hence its proactiveness to wipe out criminals therein.

“We love peace. IMSU is relatively free from cultism because we are not tolerant to cultists. Moreover, there is no bush in IMSU. No river where they can hide, although cultism is in IMSU, but we do not give them breathing space, as most of them have been arrested by the police. Imagine, among those apprehended was a girl, who possessed Ak-47 rifle. They are cooling off in police net.

“We discovered that some security personnel are originators of cultism on campuses, hence I refused to go with multiple security personnel upon assumption into office”.

While admonishing IMSU students to continue to study hard to be able to graduate in flying colors and become more useful, Chukwumaeze urged them to discard cultism and its related activities as their is stiff penalty to students caught indulging in nefarious and atrocious activities.

Welcoming men of Man ‘O’ War to the school, the Vice Chancellor said the courtesy visit was relevant, assuring that he would get back to them after presenting their request of being part of security guards on the campus to help guide the students appropriately.

Speaking earlier, Imo State Commander, Man ‘O’ War Nigeria, Dr. Adizua Camelia Nwokoye, told the Vice Chancellor that Man ‘O’ War is collaborating with the Management to open a Cadet command in IMSU as to “assist the security architecture of the school, hence most of the members will be students from this institution who will have first hand information gathering that will be turned down to the school Management before any incident happens”.

She added that when such is approved, “they will not deviate from working in synergy with the Dean of Student Affairs, SUG and CSO in discharging their assigned functions. My line is open 24/7 for advice and prompt intervention. This open communication will help us to collectively achieve more success to the glory of God Almighty”.

Noting that Man ‘O’ War is existing in over one hundred and eighty three thousand higher institutions of learning in the country, Adizua enumerated some of the objectives of the security outfit to include “to render voluntary services to the communities we find ourselves, to embark on purposeful and educative exploration, to assist law enforcement agencies in the maintenance of law and order in the society, to encourage members and others to be law abiding citizens, to render rescue and emergency services to the community”.

The Commander thanked the Vice Chancellor for the warmth reception, saying they are looking forward to a favourable response as assured.
