₦1 Million NLC Proposed Minimum Wage Not  Realistic-  Obigwe

Immediate past, Abia State chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Uchenna Obigwe says the One million naira minimum wage proposed by the NLC led by Joe Ajero to Nigeria workers is not visible and realistic while calling for the repairs of the country’s refineries.

Comrade Obigwe, who spoke to our reporter through the phone said the proposed one million naira minimum wage is good going by the ways goods and services has gone up. He regretted that with the current situation on ground and at the rate of borrowing that amount is not visible.

He wondered why even at the state of our failing economic, government can not summon courage to repair the refinery which he said is one of the way out of the country’s quack mire. He went ahead to encourage NLC to negotiate well with government at least to come out with the amount that can march the current realities on ground.

The labour leaders said years back the country used to have price control regulatory body who oversee the prices of goods and services, he regretted that such body is no longer in existence making individuals to sell at any price they like.

Speaking on the government plan to release grains from the country reserves, he said is a good plan but added that is a temporarily measures that have shot effects. He noted that government should begin to look into policies that will have long time effect in the country.

He revealed that the free fall of naira is unprecedented and had led to super inflation. He lamented that as he speaks cement is now sold at eight thousand naira in Aba, pointing out that it has not been this bad and government seems not do have answers to the economic hardship.
