Journalist in Nigerian, Most-Challenged, Catholic Priest decries

Journalist in Nigerian, Most-Challenged, Catholic Priest decries
  Director of Social Communication, Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, Rev. Fr. Leonard Ehiemere, has decried the state of Nigerian journalists, adding that they are among the most-challenged in developing countries.
The Reverend Father stated this, while preaching at the annual thanksgiving service, of Abia State NUJ, in Umuahia, the state capital.
Father Ehiemere reminded journalists that they are conscious and watchdog of the society,  while urging them to be truthful, shun brown envelope and upgrade themselves by updating in the use of modern technology.
He named some of the challenges as poor
remuneration, threat and insecurity of life, job security, lack of modern tools.
He advised journalists on the need to update their skills noting that the world is fast changing, “attend seminars and workshops, buy good instruments, respect your employers, and let the society have confidence in you”.
He admonished journalists to practice with the fear of God, noting that as the conscience of the society and voice of the voiceless, they are the mirror of the society.
Rev. Fr. Ehiemere in his  message which was taken from the book of John 15: 1-8, appluded members of the council for commencing the year with the Lord, while he described it as a sign of humility, gratitude and appreciation to God.
Speaking at the occasion, the special guest and members representing Umunnechi constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Mathias Umeh call on journalists to abide by the ethics of the profession, to be credible and  unbiased.
Hon Umeh stated this while delivering a paper, he entitled “The role of the press: The new Abia perspective”.
