…Appeals for relocation
By Sampson Uhuegbu
The Imo State Library Board, yesterday, February, 24, 2024, broke what can be described as silence of its sorry condition, since relocation to new Owerri.
It would be recalled, that former governor Rochas Okorocha, moved the Board from the Government House round about to its present location, at adjacent Imo House of Assembly.
This medium gathered, from a reliable source, that Imo State Library Board, since 2014, stopped receiving financial assistance from government to run day-to-day affairs of the establishment.
Our Reporter who visited the State Library Board, Weekend, met a concerned Imo person who disclosed that Library workers had been contributing from their meagre salaries to clean up the environment.
“Since we were relocated to this place in the year 2014, we have never received a kobo from the government. We’ve been writing and complaining, but nothing has been done”.
” Each year, our staff continued to retire and there is no replacement of the workers. Not only that, Two years ago, Imo State government brought 17 Containers- filled of books and they are rottening away here.
He therefore appealled to the Governor, Hope Uzodimma, to come to the aid of the Imo State Library Board that were according to him, abandoned by the former governors of the State, before the advent of Shared Prosperity administaion.
Our amiable Governor should relocate Imo State Library to Government round- about or The Family Support Programme (FSP) building, at whetheral road or any other central area in the Owerri metropolis.
“For now, Funding, replacement of retired staff, low patronage are our greatest challenge. Let the government assist us. He can still upgrade this place”, he suggested.
